CAT man CAT
If you want to make something big in India go for CAT (IIM -A)
If you want to do something globally go to Harward, stanford ...
If you dont want to do anything go to the local MBA colleges scattered every noke and corner in India ...

depends...if you have a work ex of 4-5 years GMAT...indian b schools are no where near us or european schools...IIMA number 1 in india and 78 in the world....if you re a fresher CAT makes sense....but i think MBA makes sense only after expeirence...

well tyler.. it's not true that Indian b-school are no where near the american or european b-schools.. there are compelling arguments to corroborate that.. 1. This same IIM-A didn't even figure in the top 100 list sometime back and now it is ranked 78th. Do you think IIMA improved so much in a year or two? Well the actual reason is visibility and recognition. India is gradually beginning to be visible in the world map and that is THE ONLY reason why the IIMs, inspite of being world-class did not or do not appear in international rankings. 2. The students that come to IIM from other b-schools around the world would vouch that IIMs are no less. If you have not heard of IIM alumni then visit some IIM sites and you will come to know that they are the who's who of business across the globe. CAT has surely become a rat race but for good reason. Nothing comes close to it in terms of what it has to offer you so it's but obvious that such a race has set in. But all said and done, I agree to 1 thing - the maturity of students that come to IIMs are somewhat less than those at the american and european b-schools most of which is explained by the fact that they have less experience and are much younger when they join a b-school in India than abroad. As far as experience is considered, most foreign b-schools don't accept freshers so as a fresher one doesn't have a choice but to try one's luck in CAT. But placements-wise it doesn't matter much. I have 3 years of experience as a software engineer in a reputed organisation and am happy to have chosen CAT over GMAT.

i have very well heard of iims sir...from my college every year 40-50 students outta 450 students re making it to iims...i too had cracked the written but failed in GD/PI.. ...thats because i was running in rat race and never knew why i wanted to do mba...now post 3 yrs of corporate expeirence i feel its better to go for mba post some work ex....world wide no college gives admission to freshers(very few exceptions might be there)....the entire exposure is class apart in top us and b schools..for that matter ISB hyderabad is good.....
u very well pointed out that maturitylevel at iims is a bit low because majority of class is fresher....i feel mba is more about networking and practical learning rather than classroom teaching....and in schools where people dont have any corporate experience wat will they share with u??? academically they might be brilliant but in 3 yrs i have learnt that emotional maturity is wat comes to ur rescue in professional world rather than academic brilliance....
rest everyone has his/her own priority and his/her own view.....i respect urs

40-50 out of 450.. great! but are you sure? I doubt if IITs can claim
such a high figure.. as of now I used to think my college has the best
records.. Out of a batch of 92, 12 got into IIMs, 2 in XLRI, 1 FMS, 1
University of California, 2-3 others in other high-ranking US unis, 1
into some top-ranking Swiss univ., 1 into ISI, and many others got into
many other b-schools and technological univs like IITs. I worked with Wipro Technologies for 3 years. Right now I am a student at IIMC... no more CAT (thank God!)

this year itself check the students in IIMC ...i think 5-6 must be there from PEC...must be juniors...i might not any of them but i got to knew about that fabulous result...even i was amazed....i really dont doubt their calibre...this time mckinsey recruited from PEC that too for practices...not knowledge centre ....re u from iiit hyd??
%AGE wise ur college is way ahead 12 outta 92 ... 14%or so!! ours is 10% conversion ...

This is probably old news, but given that Indian B-schools were being discussed I thought I'd drop a little finding.
Indian School of Business - Hyderabad, is in the Top 20 MBA programmes in the world.

There are a number of issues that needs attention. IIMs are not included in most of the western b-school rankings because IIMs didn't bother to get their MBA programs accredited by AMBA, EQUIS, etc and in most rankings at least one such accreditation is mandatory to qualify to be considered in the ranking process. Another problem is that IIMs offer Post Graduate Diplomas and not MBA which is why they don't appear in many b-school rankings. And the verity of ISB's numbers is REALLY doubtful (in fact I am quite sure they are not correct). Being the insider of one of the IIMs and having known people from ISB, I can tell you ISB stands nowhere near the IIMs (at least the top 3 IIMs) in any parameter.

I'm sorry to intrude into the thread about which I've little or no idea.
I recall having read an interesting article last Sunday by Gurcharan Das: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Gurcharan_Das_End_this_killer_Raj/articleshow/2770165.cms - End this killer Raj

IIMs dont figure in businessweek/forbes/FT rankings because they don't accept GMAT, high %age of class is fresher so no data around %age gain in salaries post MBA....IIM A PGPX meets these requirements and features in FT rankings...
on IIM vs ISB...i have seen my frnds shun IIM-B and IIM-A to attend ISB..and they dont repent their decisions..they re well placed with the likes of BCG anD Mckinsey..it depends on what is it that u want in life..and regarding quality of people..it depends on whom u re talkin to :) ...last year i was interviewed by Kellogg and Chicago Booth....while on campus i found dumb asses in kellogg and booth too but that's the law of averages.....
but all said and done..IIMs are THE BEST if u are looking to build a career in INDIA..high ROI and unmatched alum network...

Let us hope some countries in the West go belly up .
Let us hope United States have another notch cut down and the dollar gets de-valuated to levels it is worthy off.
Let us hope instead of bailing out totally corrupt giant corporations , they let them face the inevitable .
Imagine all these getting played out and I am sure the sweet spot that these countries and the ratings they have enjoyed for so long , will certainly change .
In any case , which of these guys - John Rockfeller , Steve Jobs , Bill Gates , Mark Zuckerberg , Ted Turner and our very own Dhirubhai Ambani - have a MBA degree ?

ha ha ha...
for that matter even sachin tendulkar .. muhammad ali or amir khan are not MBAs..
but i guess they re born genius and in one way or the other know wat to do in life...and i lack both the aspects .. getting in mba is part of the rat race...and since i am participating in it why not to win it (though i will remain a rat) ...
