Smartcatjee,

British has done a gr8 job and given us a global tool of English language though the original intention was for us to do the chaparashigiri for British govt..

I read lot of stories how China is trying to build this skill ...

Just want to thank british for the English gift to us..

Shayad Engleeesh nahi hoti to hum (Indians ) aaj kahi ke nahi hote!!

Wow Indiabull jee. Stock market me maa baap koin nahi hota. All are man or woman. Sometime back market participants were discussing how nuc deal is good for India and then I said market participants are always biased, so expecting good judgment is waste of time. Aur aaj apka statement se mera conviction aur bhi strong hogaya hai!!. Aaj freedom- fighters ko joker bana diya. Wow!!
Jaha tak English tool ka sawal hai -> We are so behind mainly due to this tool. Why Japan, Korea, China is so mighty in technology ? This is because their best brain stayed in their home country due to language problem and there they created what they would have created in USA/Europe. In India best brain always went abroad and created what we imported after decades. We lived this English curse for long long time before we started transforming this into our boon.
                                                  Jai Hind..Jai Bharat!!

XBoxjee,

I am an proud Indian and not taking out the credit of freedom fighters in any way !! But the fact of the matter is that people get what they deserve, the society, the rulers and administrators !! Who has stopped making progress , we r now 60 yrs after independence and what the India shining campaign you see is because of the IT and the money these people r bringing to the country....

why there is a braindrain in India, did anyone tried to find out why people want to go to US or whatever,if at all 1% of the population goes out, does it mean that they r not patriotic ?

Does Japan, Korea has the history of what we always boast !!  Japan , Germany was destroyed and they came back strong , they rebuild their country ... it is about people/society who makes difference ...What I read in our history books tell me , we are always slaves to somebody at any point of time...many rulers invaded us, many foreign countries screwed us and we have become slaves and developed the slave mentality (why my foreign counterpart leaves office at 5 p.m and my desi boss wants me to work till 8 p.m on friday evening !!!)

The problem lies in our system, the corrupt and hypocratic politicians and the overall situation in the country...(as I write this I read a naked and unconscious  pregnant  woman travelled in mumbai in local train without any  help for 2 hrs  and I can give you countless examples )

what happens in movie Swades cant happen in reality , it happens only in movies....it is not only because of lifestyle or money or whatever that people go, dont want to comeback but there is something else ,may beNarayan Murty or dhirubhai ambani are some examples who have made difference staying in India, but ask the same question to LN Mittal , would have it been possible for him to be what  he is now, was possible staying back in India..

well this will go on and on, but what point I wanted to make was, we r now in the era of globalisation and indians with engleesh skills  are at a advantage position in the macro scenario and that is possible because British gave this to us..

No offence meant for freedom fighters !!

Jai Hind !!!
Mera Bharat Mahan !! (2nd line nahi likhunga nahi to bahut sare hate mails aayenge !!)

Being generous to Britishers is a crime. First they did not gave English voluntarily to us. They forced English on us. We paid huge price for that unwanted language. Since then we were at loss time & again and if now we are gaining due to English (as few think), we don't have to give any credit to them. We already paid huge price some 100 years ago.
LN Mittle got huge success abroad and could have not got the same in India is subject of speculation. Best brains of Japan, Korea, China worked for their own country whereas Indian best brains worked abroad for foreign Govt/company. Please don't mix this with IT outsourcing wave of current times, In outsourcing both parties have mutual interest. In brain-drain, always home-country is at loss. Now one can argue how much wealth/knowledge reverse-brain-drain is bring back to India. I say next to zero if we compared brain-drain loss.
Argument on history is always endless & painful but it needs true character in respecting the truth.
Basant jee, needless to request new thread. Wink

Xbox,
I would look at the practical benefits of being able to communicate in English in todays day and age. Anyone who feels that English is forced on them is free to  not communicate at all in this language. What language would you communicate in globally  ? Korean ? Also, if the best brains worked abroad , it was because of lack of opportunity in India. BTW, There was no India before the british occupied this land that is NOW India. It used to consist of princely states fighting among each other. Even today there are more than 19 official languages in India while China,Japan and Korea have one language. That brings them together. I think English brings us together.  How is IT outsourcing different ?
When one points fingers at others three fingers are pointing towards themselves.

Disclosure : I am not forced to communicate in English. I choose to.
