Overall I feel the budget is a great positive for banking sector. By reducing excise duties and reducing individual tax liabilities , what it effectively means is that costs of products(like cars, scooters etc.) will come down and the purchasing power will go up just because of the specific budget measures. So product sales will increase (or atleast downward trend should get arrested) and loan requirements will increase (or stablize) which is great positive for banks.

The positive of increasing short term capital gains tax may be that it reduces some amount of speculation and trading mentality and even more encourage Long term investments(LTCG is still zero) which is in line with TED philosphy...

Bhai,
In the meet with press / media the FM is not clearly stating how he will provide the loan waiver funds to the banks ....... he is trying to instead also add the line that liquidity to the amount of loan waived will be given to banks over 3 years ....... further he has stated that he has not made any provision in the current budget for the loan waiver amount .....
thnx
CAN SOME ONE PLZ EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROVIDING LIQUIDITY AND PROVIDING FUNDS

The market is a place where people with money meet people with experience.
The people with experience get the money while people with money get experience!

The additional money from savings arising out of the hike in IT exemption limit instead of going to the Govt. will now remain with banks mostly the ones that cater to the up market citizen.
Now if x cuts a check to y the money still remains with the system; if they earn more post tax they can take more consumer loans; credit card spending etc. They will invest money into the markets as well. This will really give all companies in this segment a big trigger.
So on one side the upcountry banks get more money and on the other they can lend more. It also indicates that people who have taken loans can now repay back with more ease. This should help protect bad loans also.
Investor: You are right they could even buy a few bottle openers!!!
