This HNI catagory is a big misnomer.I am from Bihar and in Bihar the Credit offtake from banks is very low to the tune of 22%. But on interaction with the CA and bank managers it will seem that most Rural /semi rural (all except Patna may be categorised so) are in losses not because of the NPA but due to the huge deposits with these branches. Insurance companies are having a feild day here. I think the HNI category in the cities are finanvialy savy so as to maximise their returns not so here .
There is another Thread on the purchase of shares on loan. This is a fantastic tool used to maximise returns alowing aperson to be fully invested and yet take the benifits of a dip in the markets.
In cities like Mumbai all items are leveraged i.e Flat,shares,FD etc. While the Farmers are yet to become financialy savy.
