Since last few months (except 1 day nearly 5% jump), the stock is under strict control. As if some 'man in black' controlling the script strictly with a cutter in his hand. Does not allow it to go down much or to go up also.Smile
It does not really matter to buy the same on 18th October or before that!Confused

Thank you Basant sir,

'everything a new person needs to know seems to have been already written in TED forums'

While I will understand the details in the link given ,  I will cite my experience and my query.

During the Cipla Bonus/Split and UB Holdings split/bonus a few months back, I was an uninfromed player and i bought cipla and UB holdings at various prices averaging upwards as the prices went up as we got closer to Record date.

Later I realised some of the upside on the Bonus was too much and post the bonus the price fell very sharply. This might not have been due to any fundamental performance reasons. I infer its because of bonus being over valued before the record date.

In that light as the TV18 bonus seems to be an old news , has it impacted the prices in that they have run up a lot in the recent past or not.

I understand that from the long term TV18 and Network 18 offer promising opportunity. I have not looked at Top Down investing until I came across TED which was fairly recent. So having made up my mind to buy, I further beleive that TV 18 even if I buy now will give me a decent return if I hold for about 3 years - From the various facts i have now come to know of the media and internet markets.

Having decided to buy, I came to know that TV18 is now pre record date and hence my query as I have had a bad time in the past.

It is still a gerat way to play the Indian media story but let me add that I sold a bit one of these days - without waiting for the bonus. To me these slices of pizza give no additional benefit unless these smaller slices come with extra cheese - which they don't.

Many people would buy now and sell ex-bonus to take a capital gains loss but that does not help the cause of the long term investor.

While I continue to remain invested (bullish) on Tv18 I have tempered down the magnitude of such bullishness - Web18's listing next year should create serious money though.

you mean Web18 listing in 2009..right Basantji ? Is it going to be sooner ?
Often we forget there's a company behind every stock, and there's only one reason why stocks go up. Companies go from doing poorly to doing well or small companies grow to large companies.

Basantji,
I am guessing that there are other sectors/stocks that appear to have higher growth rates/potential  and there is opportunity cost involved in being in media ?

Basant sir, by tempered do you mean that something like a Yes Bank/Pantaloon will deliver higher returns than a Network18?

The most important quality for an investor is temperament, not intellect.A temperament that neither derives great pleasure from being with the crowd nor against it
