My debt portfolio looks something like this -

Birla Sunlife Dynamic Bond Fund (23%)
Birla Sunlife Floating Rate LT Fund (25%)
Birla Sunlife GSF LT Fund (20%)
HDFC Cash Mgmt Savings Fund (22%)
HDFC Floating Rate LT Fund (10%)

Long term bond funds have started giving good returns. For eg: Birla Sunlife Dynamic bond fund has returned 3% in 3 months - that's 12% per annum (annualized).

Perhaps a slight rise, pause and then a massive fall.

Smartcatji, would you hazard a guess on the timeline for the above change?

Wouldn't venture into that territory! But I do have 45% in long term debt (BSL Dynamic & BSL Gilt) - so I'm guessing we are pretty close to the peak interest rates.

The way I understand is - this is how it would work. If there is a global recession, there will be a fall in commodity prices (Eg: crude is sliding down already). If there is a fall in commodity prices, there will be a fall in inflation rates. And lower inflation rates will result in lower interest rates.

Now if there is no global recession, inflation is going to stay. I haven't figured out what will happen to my debt portfolio then, but my equity portfolio should do well

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Smartcatji.

I read somewhere the interest cycle needs to turn in couple of quarters from now.

Rahul
