Hi Basantji,

1. Can you please explain what (Increase)/Decrease in stock in trade and work in progress in the Income statement signify?Tried looking up on the web but did not get a good explanation.

2.Is a disproportionate increase in this number good or bad?
Take your chances and keep them in a box until a quieter time.

If the stock increases at a rate higher then the increase in sales then the company is holding inventory which is not a good sign but one has to see y-on-ybecause companies build up inventory for the peak season also.

On the other hand decrease in stock is a good news because the products are moving off the shelf but sometimes companies push their stuff to their distributors also and that is the black box in the decrease in sales.

Yes, any dis-propotionate variance is bad!

Talking about accounting shenanigans, there is an interesting documentary on how Enron was able to do it consistently for years together before it went bust. The documentary is "The smartest guys in the room". It goes into minutest details of how Enron became the darling of analysts, how it kept enthralling them, year after year and what caused its eventual downfall.
