I wonder what was going on in Govt's mind at that mind - forcing companies to list.

Any idea how companies like Coke/Pepsi avoided getting listed? Coke quit India sometime in 1980's I heard - was it because of this?

It was Coke alongwith IBM as i have heard.....those were the great days of shri shri George Fernandes......But then I know of people who made so much money upon the listing of indian subsidiaries of foreign companies that they turned their life the whole circle. The foreign companies dont need investors money.....and thats why they are least interested in jacking up prices. Its sheer disgust that you are getting an alfa laval at a price lesser than that of Texmaco when the kind of technological expertise alfa has can easily put a texmaco to a shame. also consider that if a sector does well, all the MNCs in that sector generally do far better than the domestic counterparts. look at larsen, look at ABB, look at siemens, look at cummins, look at areva. so to say they are dogs is also not factually correct.

Isn't that a bad sign? Taking the statement one step further, it means foreign companies don't care much  about its listing and its Indian shareholders. And they wouldn't mind taking steps to the detriment of Indian shareholders.

Eg: Siemens and Novatis. Siemens bids for some projects under Siemens AG rather than Siemens India. Novartis has setup a separate company and might introduce new drugs/products under this unit, rather than the listed company (Source: Equitymaster.com)

I think TEDdies should take a look at Suven Life Sciences. They are quietly accumulating patents and signing deals with major drug manufacturers. Just because their revenues are in dollars doesn't mean the market should whip the pants off them. Still for us contrarians, I think it makes for a nice buying opportunity.....

Which of the stocks on TED XI will fall the sharpest when the correction begins in a few hours from now?

Will it be PRIL which has reached the cap on FII holdings and now has a P/E of 130.32?

Or will Dish TV flying only on hopes with not a single penny in earnings slip to single digits?

Can the HDFC twins with PE of 44+ rally domestic support to make up for the big void caused by overseas investors churn their Indian portfolio to fill in their margin calls?

As their prospective suitors - HSBC, Barclays, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs struggle to stay afloat in a sea of sub-prime sharks, who will wed the parayaa dhan Axis and Yes banks? Both will be sitting all dolled up waiting for their betrothal in 2009.

Will bargain hunters stalk the Media mavens - ENIL and Network 18 as they shed the flab grown around their middles these past few weeks?

Do I see the beginnings of a snug smile on the faces of Titan and Financial Technologies as the prospects of a rupee rendered weaker by dollars fleeing Indian shores prop up their chances in export markets?

Let the guessing games begin then.....

Shivkumarjee,

why we should play the game of guessing  who will fall and who will not, when the index falls, when their is a fire everything burns !!! May be this is an opportunity to get into the best of the stocks at bargain prices..

Anyways, Market does not do what looks obvious most of the times !!

Hi Mr. Shivkumar,

I liked the language of your post, seemed quite literary.By the way, am interested in knowing whether you write poetries etc. In case you do so, do write something on the companies you have mentioned in the post of yours. They make interesting reading.
