Hi, I've been logging on to TED for some months now and really like the site. Some how I missed the 'introduction' thread so am a little late in the introductions.
Investing and stock picking is a passion i've discovered over the last three years and now i spend a lot of time reading up and learning as much as i can.
I come from a non finance background and felt this was a huge disadvantage for quite a long time. But after a lot of reading and researching i've become comfortable with the basics of finance needed for stock investing. Though things like futures and options and warrants and preferential shares are things i'm still getting to know and am not comfortable with yet.
I've spent 10 years in advertising so i've been exposed to quite a few industries. More importantly, i know the power and value of a brand name.
A well built brand really is a huge moat.
I'm by nature a contrarian and find myself attracted to stocks and industries that are out of favour. This is purely unconcious. It just happens to be the way i am. I've made some money being contrarian so have no complaints :-)
I have one big weakness and I hope that all you TEDites will help me learn and overcome this. I have a huge difficulty in valueing and identifying growth stocks. I'm unable to value them and lose out of many a multibagger because I haven't yet developed a framework to value these stocks. I would appreciate any help al of you can give me in this area.
For my part, I can offer help and knowledge (whatever little i have) in areas of branding and marketing and my opinions on the strength of a companies brands wherever applicable.
I also have colleagues and friends at TV 18 (an all time TED fav stock). So any queries you have i can pass on. I can't always promise answers but i will try my best.
Like I said, the one area where i would really like help is in identifying and valueing growth stocks and industries. I would really appreciate any guidance Basantji and others could give me.
Thanks and here's looking forward to prosperity and happiness for all TEDites!
