Thanks Basantji for suggesting to introduce myself as I was not aware about this section.
 
I am Snehal, 49, practising chartered accountant, located in Mumbai since 27 years, studies in kolkata.
 
While I am a chartered accountant since 27 years, my love for capital market started in 1973 at a young age of 16. Accordingly, have been fortunate to be in the market since quite a time and have enjoyed every minute of being in the capital market.
 
My investing strategy has evolved over a period of time, after various learnings from each of the actions and mistakes, since last 5 years, it is long term value investing with continuous monitoring as opposed to long term investing without monitoring that used to happen in past.
 
One learning of import is also to book loss when the mistake is identified and the investment does not perform instead of clinging on to it for years and decades that I used to historically do.
 
Another lesson learnt is not to get worried with temporary build up of idle funds in the portfolio. Previously, merely because there was not much incremental use of incremental funds, duds and losses used to get nursed for ages. Now that does not happen.
 
Presently, I am bullish on new generation pvt.sector banks, research based Indian pharma, niche plays in the tech field, pipes and tubes sector etc.
 
Would be happy to be a learner here.
 
This site is contributing immensely to the lives of serious investors, learners and matures alike.

Hi all,

Registered myself at last ! Have been reading the forums for atleast 2-3 months now.
 
This is Arvind from Bangalore. I am 32 and am into software.
 
Have been into Equities for about 2 years more via mutual funds. But from last 6 months, have got really interested in direct equity investing and understanding equity analysis
 
This is a great site - The only place i came across where we can learn the nuances of stock picking

Snehalji Among the private banks have you looked at Kotak Bank? Seems interesting and is due for demerger - maybe you can add a bit. We have the topic under the section "Large Cap Blue Chips".

I am glad to have found this forum. Excellent discussions and analysis! Thank you Basantji for running a great forum. I have been reading the forum for past 1 month. Here is my intro..

-Name : Koodala Sangama
- Age : 29
- Location : Pittsburgh, USA (Bengaluru, India)
- Occupation : Software Development
- Interests : Reading (mostly current affairs/geopolitics), Investing, Movies
- Investing styles - On the path to becoming very very long term investor. I find Buffet's approach of acting as though stock market did not exist attractive. I started out with mutual funds (indexing) and "modern portfolio theory" - diversify completely. Next started buying IPOs and selling them on listing. Then spent a year just buying and selling on gut feeling with holding period of about a month. Meanwhile read Lynch, Buffet's shareholder letters. About 2 yrs ago keyed on to RD chats and bought some of his recommendations. What appeals me most is value. I love a great deal, whether at the stock market or grocery store or garage sale. Bought Reliance when brothers were fighting and Tata Steel after Corus thumping.

Slowly I am trying to move towards Basantji's approach - long term with extreme concentration. Hope I can build such a portfolio!

Currently 30% bonds (PPF/KVP), 40% MFs (index mainly in US, India some index and other small/midcap) and 30% individual stocks. Among the latter main stocks are Nucleus, Trent (recent), VIP and TV Today. Have some 10 other smaller exposures. Need to concentrate them..

Hope to learn a lot here from all the experienced gurus! Many regards to all!

Yes, I am following Kotak bank also in the new generation private sector banking space and have gone through the thread “Kotak Mahindra : All in one” which is about to complete a year of its existence soon.

 

While I am happy that over a period of time, the discussions on this topic have gained right traction and direction, unfortunately, the discussions started with a couple of myths. It is more surprising that some of the senior TEDites with extremely succinct perspective on Yes Bank as also on the discussions on “Which Pvt. sector bank would be taken over “ also seem to be nursing some myths in the context of Kotak Bank.

 

With due humility, I would like to dispel some of the myths. Accordingly, today, I have posted a mail in that thread attempting to dispel the first myth.

 

Would be happy to receive dissenting voices on the subject.
