Do the IIM’s have any arrangement for evaluating vernacular medium background students in any subject except English? If not then would an MBA be an urban India’s most adored career while rural India fights hard to get into IIT's and civil services.
As far as I can recollect not all MBA schools prefer non English speaking students. In fact the much talked about Madhu Kela of reliance Mutual Fund had to do his MBS from a "C" grade B school since he could not communicate in English.
Kela right now is one of the most powerful fund managers in the Indian Mutual fund industry and manages well over Rs 25,000 crores. How his poor English speaking skills could have affected his mental thinking and his financial intellect is something which only these prestigious MBA school administrators can answer.
Indians are obsessed to English. There are many non English speaking countries that are doing better then us but still the idea of having no alternative for non English speaking students is appalling!
France, Germany, China and Japan are some that come to mind immediately.
And finally MBA has been an American innovation. never heard the Japanese or the German talking about MBA. Their focus was engineering and probably that is why a vernacular educated lad of 20 odd can prepare for his engineering exam much more easily then sit for his MBA entrance exams.
