If someone in his thirties can set aside a small sum today, say this year's Diwali bonus, and do not touch it, this money can have time of about 50 years to compound in that person's lifetime. Such a long time, if invested well, can create a fortune for next generation.

I agree. Equities is only way to do this and if someone is aiming to take advantage of compounding then patience with investments is pre-requisite.

I have been doing a small experiement in this regard since last couple of years. Every month on salary day, I keep aside 1% of my intended monthly savings for such long term investments, say for family legacy or say a family wealth fund. This 1% does not even register in day to day life. I kept buying Page. It has become reasonable amount today and I am sure if I keep doing it, it will swell into something big. Ofcourse, Page has performed well in last two years and it has been easy to ride. Just hoping that I will keep getting reasonable returns in future.

And this can be done in many ways like keeping aside annual bonus or keeping aside cash gifts children receive on their birthday and at the time of festivals. All these small accumulations can go a long way.

Absolutely....In just 5 years I am sitting comfortable with a very small start. I never ever though that I could have such a corpus. It is just because of good advice from TED and then BC.

Cheap advice will remain cheap like cheap stocks(Unitech, Suzlon and others who fall in their category). They are cheap because they deserve to be there.
