There are many a lessons here on the randomness of markets and how there is no holy grail.

1. Someone who liked the stock and was out of it because of pledging (normally a bad thing) would have lost out on the great run the stock had in the last one year.

2. It did not fall on bad news which is typically considered good for the stock and then we all know what happened.

I think these maxims work as often as they fail.

The only thing that seems to work in my experience for a good business and it all comes back to the basics is an above average ROE without using much debt (except financials ofcourse) - just avoid businesses earning sub par long term ROEs and you will save yourself a lot of money.

What was the ROE of Gitanjali?
Take your chances and keep them in a box until a quieter time.

Just looking at the pattern it does seem like they have a more downside left.

Also, it going by moneycontrol data they seem to have paid limited taxes and dividends and so you really need to trust the guys at the helm.

i dont think that this is a good company.
low roce, high debt.
Too many acquisitions in the past, frequent restructuring, has too many brands in the portfolio. Having too many brands is a bad idea as you end up spending heavy amounts on advertising and building up each brand.
The company has been hiring all the stars , superstars for ads - Shah rukh and anushka for gitanjali, Salman and Kareena for sangini, rita and sreesanth for maya, katrina for nakshatra, neha dhupia and several ohers whose name i cant recall.

story over.
understanding both the power of compound return and the difficulty getting it is the heart and soul of understanding a lot of things

An article in Business Line mentions that 50% of their revenues is via selling Gold Coins. If that is indeed the case then it's hard to see a quick recovery given that it's banned now.

Also, it means the elaborate brand building exercises did not yield the right results.

And now they are raising money from the market to increase debts further
