I have enabled a manual feature of activating new users so while we contain/suspend the old ones the new ones should get insulated. Please do not click on their bizarre links as clicking makes them money and will keep them interested.

Spammers are taking active participation in "Active " topics . Is there no alternative administrator other than Basant to clean up the spam topics in active topics?

Spammers must be tackled ruthlessly. They make it appear as if anything which is free is worthless.

Suggestions :

1) Do not allow any new topic to be opened for 15 days.

2) Only 25-50 serious members post regularly. Allow only that select number to post for 10-15 days. This list can be chosen manually in 5 mins.

3) Delete all accounts with meaningless aliases such as "higkttgh" .

4) Make re-registration mandatory for all users who have not logged in for more than, say, 6 months.

Because of this endless spamming,  I had kept away from TED for couple of weeks. I logged in recently to find annoying spam, which is now forcing me to reconsider my decision.

i think we need to be patient. i am not a techie but i believe this issue can be sorted out. i think the idea of re-registration is good.

Manual feature of enabling registration is a very good way forward...tedious work but right way. Other ideas will come time to time. We have to continously innovate to keep one step ahead of spammers as one rule will not always work till eternity.

All's well, let's all stay POSITIVE!!! :-)

Basantji, pls assign partial admin rights to some users who can cleanup the spammers when you are not arround. Many will be willing to take up the task. I am ready to do that whenever possible. 5 more admins can kill all the spammers easily.
If you're prepared to invest in a company, then you ought to be able to explain why in simple language that a fifth grader could understand, and quickly enough so the fifth grader won't get bored.
