So effectively 15% tax if dividend option is taken (MF or individual whoever pays, finally its our own money). I wonder why govt would leave a hole like that :P.
here we consider the net returns between FD and mutual funds and mutual fund gives better returns, so the investor is least concerned whether who is paying the tax.
I had not thought of dividend paying would keep NAV same and thus would pay lesser tax. And yes at the end of the day return only matters :). Thanks for the help.
In case of divedend payout option there is no question of capital gains tax as the NAV remains same.
The NAV doesnt remains the same when a Mutual Fund announces a dividend rather the NAV falls down with the corresponding amount which has been declared.

What is your strategy regarding buying MF's and ideal MF portfolio mix and what would be top MF holdings at present considering current markets? Please enlighten with due reasoning. trying to build MF portfolio alongwith equity but too naive and inexperienced in this areana.

Instead of buying MFs either SIP or lumpsum, if you follow same (SIP or LUMPSUM) approach and buy&hold leading companies stocks of various sectors, it will generate minimum 1.5 to 2 times of any mutual fund portfolio.
