As the CEO of Infosys Nandan Nilekani has carried out the Infosys legacy just as well as Narayan Murthy did. Born and brought up in a typical middle class family Nandan joined the IIT Bombay in 1973 where he graduated as an engineer 5 years later.
A day after completing his engineering Nandan walked into the South Mumbai office of Patni Computer Systems. He was interviews by Narayan Murthy who was then heading the software business of the company. Both of them would never have been able to dream that one day they will spearhead what could be one of the world’s best outsourcing corporation.
It is said that during his interview Nandan Nilekani was given about 10 questions by Murthy. Nandan got all the 10 correct. Three years later the two along with five other like minded people sat down to set up a software company “Infosys technologies”. This decision was the genesis for the Indian software industry.
In 2006, Nilekani was awarded the Padma bhushan and in January 2006, he became the youngest entrepreneurs to join 20 global leaders on the World Economic Forum (WEF) Foundation Board. In the May 2006 issue of TIME Magazine Nandan was regarded as of the 100 most influential people in the world.

He is also regarded as the co-founder of India’s National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM)..
He is married to Rohini (an English-language writer and novelist) and they have two children, a daughter Janhavi and a son Nihar. In May 2006, in a study conducted by Brand-comm a leading Brand Consulting, Advertising and PR firm, Mr. Nilekani emerged as one among the top ten most admired business leaders of India.Presently Mr Nilekani is pushing for better governance in Bangalore.
