Hello,

March 2007 was another of those high flying quarters with extraordinary performance from most of the stocks members discuss on this forum. Particularly piquant was the performance of the http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=429 -   http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=221 - flourished. For a discussion on our Cricket XI you would need to http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=429 - The real test would start from this quarter. Rising interest rates will create panic in the markets but over the past few years I have learnt that we as investors have almost little chance to fight rising interest rates by timing the markets. I am personally invested 100% because taking that interest rate call is difficult.

So what is the solution? The solution is not to be invested in sectors that are interest rate sensitive. Now we can argue whether http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=277 -

The Cricket XI continues to do extraordinarily well except for two stocks which should recover well with time.

The coming quarter will test the character of the investor more then his skills and it is the former which is in short supply within us. For this we remain obliged to Kulmanji for helping us understand the master by making continuous posts to the http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=215 - Warren Buffet School of Investing .

It is another thing not to sell in panic but entirely extraordinary not to panic and after reading those posts each day in the morning I think I have graduated from the earlier level (of not selling in panic) to the higher level of not panicking- thanks again to Kulmanji.

Very relevant quotation. It is time to separate boys from men. Basant jee, congratulations for excellent q4 results. We are first to publish q4 and y'06-'07 results. Clap Loss and gains are part of game but journey is quite important for serious investors. I thank you many times to make this journey smooth, enjoyable and comfortable for all of us. Many times, TED has helped me to make or not-to-make certain decisions.
Wish many more fruitful years, quarters to all of TEDs. Thumbs%20Up

Congratulations to all the members of TED.
More than the actual performance of the portfolio which no doubt is important, I feel the real gain of TED members is the learning. I have been part of this forum for 1 month and already I have learned and enjoyed so much. Like Vipul said its the journey that is important.
I can't wait for the annual reports to come out followed by the analysis by the TED members.

Once again kudos to everyone.

I must confess that TED has helped me immensly to develop kind of 'emotional detachment'. Of course it (my approach) needs continuous improvement & it is a long way to go.

I'm fortunate enough to have found this wonderful forum exactly 6 months ago. Sometimes I wonder had it not been for TED, how I would have reacted in Dec'06 or Feb'07 or even now. As said earlier I've stopped losing money.

I may not be owning major stocks from TED-XI or I might have underperformed indices; but does it really matter? TED has helped me in becoming a better human being emotionally. And in the process my friends' circle of competence has widened!

Thanks you so much for all those kind words. We are all learning and as someone said we can only be students of this business never a master. But if that learning happens amidst all the fun nothing like it and it is the way in which we share thoughts and  experiences which makes TED so difficult to stay away from.

As Kulmaji mentioned thebest way to make money is not to lose it and if that hole within us can be blocked then a major part of the problem has been addressed.

Devesh, I forgot PVR and now I have included it funny I did not forget Tv18 or IndiabullsWink

I would once again congratulate the TED on such fantastic numbers which it churns out quarter after quarter. BasantJi...Congratulations.

About the member quality of the TED, I can only say it is excellent as they represent the various industry's and there can be no better explanation than the one which the user gives out.

We all have learnt a great deal from Warren Buffet, which has been such a success due to the tireless effort of Mr Kulman. The most important part of learning for me was the right attitude and the rational approach which he teaches. As they say "In the market Discipline is everything".

Basant Ji

First of all, congratulations for the excellent results. I request to you insert an additional column for quarter over quarter performance in addition to comparing it with the recommended price.

That shall highlight how the scrips performed in the last quarter and it is relevant even if we have 10 years vision. As relevant as we have the concept of reporting quarterly report card.

Thank you. Shall try to get that suggestion going but we can always look at the 2006 Dec report card to compare!!!

Thanks Mohan ji, appreciate it. I haven't been active for the last few days on TED, since I want to be in the "reading mode" currently and am thus absorbing all the great posts by every TEDDY. Keep it going everyone. Cheers! Tongue

Basantji,
As the markets are falling in the hindsight of the interest hikes....Lets say we don't want to catch the falling knife.. But while the dust settles for a while... which of the TED picks are most attractive with this fall ?

We know you are 100 % invested. But say you have some 5% additional cash come in for investing
- which one would you want to buy - TV18, Net18, Pantaloon Retail
- At what range would they become attractive to you to buy  ?

Basant,
That way would it not be wise to convert TV18 to  NW 18  , if one has the capacity to wait it out . Also by when do you think NW18 will show its true value ?

Posted By: basant
Date Posted: 02/Apr/2007 at 10:43am
"When" is the question but I am not converting - though logically it does seem reasonable to convert. Still I have a decent exposure in NW18 though Tv18 is skewed higher in my portfolio.

Hi Basant Sir,
Thanks for sending me the report.
For fresh exposure, which one do you think the better one? Still, trying to understand the valuations of NW 18.  What is the complete name for Network 18 (Network 18 Fincap Limited). Name looks slightly misleading. Sorry for asking the basic questions.

Congratulations Basantjee for excellent performance.
Bur I feel there are lot of TED's invested in underperforming scripts from your list like Adlabs. PVR, WWIL, Suzlon....

I feel alongwith the report card we should also need an updation on these underperforming scripts from your end. it gives a mental boost to investors, as well as frest outlook to the scripts...

Yes, I can understand that there have been underperformers and we need to update the stocks but generally these were 1-2 year investments except for WWIL which could be slightly longer in nature but all of these companies should create retrn for investors.

If I get you correct are you suggesting that of NW18, TV18 & PRIL - at current valuations, if there is extra cash, you would increase exposure to NW18 ?

Please let me know..

Hello Basant sir,
What are the expected EPS for NW-18. I know, your recommendation is not based on the immediate earning? Can you give us a short insite into future earnings potential of the company?

We have discussed that on Nw thread maybe around Rs 16 -Rs 18(consolidated) for Fy08 real Eps will come in Fy 09 when GBN starts to earn well.

1. There is a typo error in the title of this thread. Match shall actually be March.

2. Basant jee, Q4 results+guidance would change the composition of TED-XI?

3. Like the calculation for Sensex EPS FY08E & P/E range, you had mentioned that same would be worked out for TED-XI. Could you update that data please?

Basantji,
Some time ago when we were discussing we wanted to have a relook at the Equity XI after March. Would this be a good time to evaluate the Equity XI and retire off some of them and promote some substitutues to the main team ?

Cheers,
Vivek

Congratulations Basantjee for the spectacular show and building conviction amongst TEDies.

Congratulations to Kulmanjee as well ,I held back and read Buffetism again before I take any major decision... it helped me personally to hold back and sit tight when my emotions were a sort of out of control...Tongue

Congratulations to Vivek, Ajith,Om Bubblevision and not to forget Devesh and many others who have contributed immensely to this forum..

Just few questions..
1.I didnt quite understand the statement we exited rain commodities and cement exited ?
2.If I look at Team XI, some of the players didnt perform well e.g Suzlon, ABN if we compare to other players that we discussed and played. Is it not the right time to rethink on the future of these and replace them with new blood? (May be my expectations are too high here Smile)
3.Could you also put the Life time high/low of these stocks and PE details and forward projections considering 3 -5 year projection in another columns?
4.If Basantji publishes Annual report its most welcome.
5. There are more than 5000 stocks traded on the exchanges, and TED keep on asking opinion abt many stocks in some other topics, why not create a separate topic, where in we will have only those ideas which are screened throughly and Basatjee and senior members giving them final touches based on their competancy on those in a separate forum or topic and track their performance.

Just sharing some random thoughts..

Pls comment as appropriate...

1) didnt quite understand the statement we exited rain commodities and cement exited ?:

I was writing from the forum's point of view. In the respective thread we have discussed why we should not be bullish on these two any more.

2) .If I look at Team XI, some of the players didnt perform well e.g Suzlon, ABN if we compare to other players that we discussed and played. Is it not the right time to rethink on the future of these and replace them with new blood? (May be my expectations are too high here Smile)

Suzlon is down because of that takeover hangover. The company's fundamentals have not changed just the price has, Trent has become cheaper though personally I hold it no more.ABN has also done nothing wrong just that the stock has come down. I think we should wait for signals for the fundamentals to change.
3.Could you also put the Life time high/low of these stocks and PE details and forward projections considering 3 -5 year projection in another columns?

EPS/PE we can but since I was not followibng all these stocks they do appear a bit difficult to forecast. Alternbatively we can take a research house's forecast and then do our own write up on that with comments. That is perfectly possible.

why not create a separate topic, where in we will have only those ideas which are screened throughly

The ones listed in this report are followed thoroughly - at least we think so whereas there are several in the stock synopsis section where we have random posts and then the things do not move. The idea is to put all such stocks in this section where an investor can do his own research by reading the pages in those threads.

I would prefer the other two to http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=142 - -   http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=29 - - Pantaloon Retail are both sitting on a cusp of structural change.

http://www.theequitydesk.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=135 - - Educomp
